Ok so up until a month or so ago I hated the color Red. I have always thought it was to bold and too say the very least… kinda slutty! Well I am actually really starting to change my mind. In browsing the current fashion websites and shopping in the most relevant of stores, I’ve realized that red, paired with the proper accessories can be fantastic if not just pure genius! Red is NOT for the shy person who wants to blend in with the crowd, but more for the beautiful starlet who loves allll the attention!
I used to be that first person (still can be sometimes), an extremely shy and quiet individual. Not wanting any attention drawn to her whatsoever! Some of you that know me now are thinking ‘What?? There is no way you are a shy person!’ haha but it is sooo true! My most memorable validation of this statement is from High School. Our school had an area called The Quad, where everyone hung out during lunch time. The Quad was this HUGE open space, the size of maybe two football fields (at 14 it seemed this big, but it was maybe no bigger than a basketball court) where everyone sat on the surrounding benches, ate lunch and people watched. The problem was, the fastest way to get anywhere on campus was through this Quad! Ohh the horror! I would almost always (unless I was with a group of people – even then I had to walk on the inside so no one could see me) walk all the way around to avoid any type of attention, good or bad. I absolutely did not like people starting at me. So at this point in my life, there was no way I would wear anything bold! Red would be the last color you would see me in, unless it was part of some sort of uniform everyone else was wearing too!
Now, as I’m becoming a Woman and more aware of myself – my true friends and family that love everything about me, what makes me happy, my favorite to-die-for music and fashion choices, I... to say it nicely... do not give a fuck what anyone thinks about me! I could careless who is looking or talking about me, because most of the time I am having the time of my life and I want everyone to know it. This is not to say that I think I’m the shit 24/7 because that is absolutely not true. The people that are really close to me know I am a true shy girl at heart that loves to do my occasional hiding in the closet every once in awhile – umm especially while doing the walk of shame (well, that could still be fun if your with the right person and you guys are still drunk! Hahah). I have PLEANTY of off days! Believe me! I mean who likes to wear heels, make up and tight clothes everday?? Umm not me!! But I’ve realized,if I don’t think I’m beautiful who will? You have to have confidence and respect about you self to get treated the way you want in this world. If you think you look horrible…. Then everyone else will too! ***side note*** I am currently writing another blog that talks about this very subject entitled ‘How to think you’re the shit and actually be right’***. I personally think I have great style. I tend to dress in things that many other people would not dare to sport or have never even thought of wearing but I look fantastic in it. How do I know? Because I can feel it and that’s all that matters. And the feeling get affirmed when I’m out and people either tell me or I can just see it in their face. I love that feeling! And this why I’m really starting to love Red! If I’m out shopping and I happen to come across the most fantastically sexy red in the world... I will try it on, gasp in the mirror, say OMG and smile – this usually always happens when I try the most amazing outfit on for the first time.
Now, don’t just wear red to wear it. You have to feel it... it has to be the right moment. It has to just jump out at you like a ton of bricks! like POW! This is this shit! What do I mean by this? Well, I feel like this color often gets a horrible reputation because it is so bold and often times its wear-er is just simply abusing it. Red is so powerful that when worn thoughtfully it will leave everyone speechless… if worn improperly, well it will also leave everyone speechless. In looking online for some examples I have found some ABUSERS of Red:
Ok so if you remember.. In the beginning of this blog I mentioned the fact that I used to not like red because it can look kind of slutty... well take a look at Exhibit A above. Red is all really a hot and sexy color... this tasteless shirt will bring you alll the wrong attention.
So this is actually a kinda of cute dress. But notice I said kinda. Something is just not right about it and I think its the fact that its red! Black would have been a better choice!
Umm.. I know this is a fashion show of some sort... but who in the hell would actually wear this? She looks like Big Bird on Valentines day!
Ok Red dress and Red tights are definitely a NO!! End of discussion!
Yep I was just as shocked as she was! This is horrible.. I mean why would you ever think to put this on.. Its like wearing Red just to wear it!
HAHAHAH Standing on the corner wearing a trashy Red dress? Nuff said!
Hmm this better be for a photo shoot or something.. cuz this looks like it hurts and is very unflattering...
Red Hair and Red tube dress on a 60 year old woman? Not the business!
With GREEN shoes??? OMG was it Christmas?
So I think this is supposed to be a wedding dress. Umm... please do not everrr wear a completely Red dress on your wedding day ok? Even though this is a very beautiful dress, I think it looks tacky. Its like wearing stripper heels to Church... every sexy bad girl has stripper heels, but they dont wear them the Church!!!
The following is how Red should be worn.. Its more of a movement.. and a feeling like... Like art! A Woman who wears the right shade of red looks stunning. She garners admiring glances all around. She takes her fashion where no one had gone before. It doesn’t seem like shes trying hard at all! Its like that color was made for her! Enjoy some of my favorites:

And THAT is how you wear Red... Kinda magical huh?
The following is a bit of research I did to see if anyone else shares the same ideas as I do:
Which is the Right Red for Your Complexion?
According to In Style, women with porcelain skin and blonde hair, like Gwyneth Paltrow, can wear true reds, striking tomato shades, which are not too orangey. Blue-based shades really flatter alabaster skin tones too.
Deep dramatic reds look good on brown-eyed women and sultry dark-brunettes such as Catherine Zeta Jones. Clarets, wines, burgundys and plums feature heavily in the fall winter palette and look good with tawny browns and grays. Those with olive and darker skin can wear scarlet and orange-based reds.
Softer shades of coral or blush red look good on women with a medium complexion, where the skin is neither dark nor light, such as Natalie Portman. This mid-tone pastel will mirror your skin tone.
Once you have learn to make the most of red, find out how to wear other colors that suit your complexion.

You will save yourself hours of embarrassment. You know when you look beautiful.. you know that feeling when you put on your sexiest dress and you get those tingles all over your body? Yah that’s what you should get by wear a great red.. but x 1000! Red is a fiery color associated with love, passion, ambition… with living. Embrace and Enjoy like I have!
